The cause of fading and discoloration on your vinyl pool liner are usually often the result of the chemicals and the sun exposure. Harsh sun and chemical exposure can cause your liner to fade prematurely, though slight fading is common and occurs gradually over time. To prevent fading and protect their liner to keep it looking like new for as long as possible, there are some things pool owners can do. Today, we at Metropolitan Pools would like to share some tips to prevent your pool liner from fading.

How Can I Make My Pool Liner Last Longer & Not Fade?

1) Maintain recommended chemical levels. To achieve proper levels, always use the minimum amount of chemicals possible. When using the chemicals, pay attention to expiration dates, and consult with a pool expert if it doesn’t seem to be working correctly, make sure to read and follow all instructions when using the chemicals.
2) After adding chemical, do not cover the pool. After adding chlorine and other chemicals, leave your pool uncovered for at least 24 hours. Rather than getting trapped in a closed environment under the pool cover, this allows the chemicals to properly dissipate into the air.
3) Chlorine floaters should be avoided. Since it can cause bleaching or fading due to the high chlorine concentration in a particular spot, chlorine floaters have been known to rest on the vinyl or spill.
4) Select a light-colored pool liner. Consider a light-colored liner when purchasing a new pool line. For a longer period of time, light colors tend to resist fading.
5) Make sure to pre-dissolve shock. In a bucket, always pre-dissolve pool shock and pour slowly around the edge of the pool. From bleaching your liner, this procedure keeps the concentrated chemicals.
6) Utilize a pool cover. From the sun’s harmful UV rays, pool covers help protect your liner. You can use fewer chemicals and spend less time cleaning the pool, they also keep dirt, debris, and pests out of your pool.
7) Around the pool, update your landscaping and design. Block direct sunlight to the pool liner with trees, buildings, and other natural elements. Consider planning some large shrubs, installing a tall fence, adding an awning, or building a shed to shield the pool from sunlight if your pool is in a particularly sunny area.
8) Natural cleaner use. As it can help clean your liner while minimizing chemicals that can cause fading over time, use natural and organic alternatives, like vinegar and organic dish soap. On a small area of your liner beforehand, follow manufacturer instructions and test natural cleaners.
9) Water chemistry balance. To make sure your water is properly balanced, check your water chemistry frequently. At least once a week, you should test your water. The more often you should test, the more you use your pool. In order to help prevent accidental fading or damage from overusing chemicals and prevent stains from algae growth caused by overusing chemicals, keep the water chemistry balanced.
10) When shocking, closing, and opening your pool, use caution. When you first open and close it, chemicals are most concentrated. Avoid direct contact with the liner, and properly circulate the water to avoid issues, make certain you follow all instructions.
