However, with a vinyl pool, you can’t completely drain the water out of your swimming pool without causing damage to the vinyl liner. So that leaves vinyl pool owners in a predicament. Steps to Get Rid of Green Algae in a Vinyl Pool

There are a few extra steps to get rid of green algae in a vinyl pool as opposed to other types of pools. Here are the steps you need to follow:
– Clean the Pool: To get started, you need to clean your pool. Remove all the organic debris that you can out of the pool. If you have leaves, twigs and other organic debris in the pool, you aren’t ever going to be able to get rid of the algae. You can use a vacuum to get the waste out, and you can also use a pool rake to get rid of bigger debris that is found in the bottom of the pool.
– Replace Some Water: If you get rid of all the water in a vinyl pool, there will be wrinkles that form the next time to fill the pool. However, you can take up to half the water out of the pool and replace it without any problems. You need to remember to leave at least 6 inches of water in the bottom of the pool to avoid any problems with your liner.
– Balance the Water: The next thing you’re going to need to do is balance the water using chemicals. Before you do this, make sure the water is 95% clean first. You are going to need to test the water to see the alkalinity of the water. In a vinyl pool, the alkalinity should be at least 70 ppm. You will also need to check the calcium hardness and cyanuric acid before chlorinating the pool.
– Shock the Pool: Once you get the fresh water added and the water chemistry is balanced again, add 2 bags of pool shock per 10,000 gallons of water. The water in your pool will more than likely be a cloudy blue color. Just make sure the pH level is on the lower side before shocking the pool. It should be 7.2-7.4.
